Founder & Managing Director, Castle Comfort Group

Keith Simpson

When Keiths mother told him to search for mobility items (at the right price) for her in the mid 1990's - nobody could imagine to what it would lead.

From a small shop, opening mornings only and selling a few Riser Recliner Chairs per week, the company has grown consistently to become quite a formidable force in the world of mobility.

Keith's policy has always been to focus on products to compliment chairs, i.e. stairlifts, Adjustable Beds, walkers and bath lifts. Such specialising is still in place, but the team at Castle Comfort will assist and advise on the need for ANY items to make life easier.

The group serves the whole of the UK, and in the case of its specialist stairlift division, covers Ireland and Spain.

Director & CEO, Castle Comfort Group

Ann Bruce

Keith often remarks when he bought 'Bank House' now the Group's HQ, from National Westminster Bank, they allowed him to keep three things. One of them was their huge mistake. The abandoned branch contained some rusty old safes needing scrapping. Second, scattered around, was £1.17 in total in cash and they could afford to lose all that!

Where they really slipped up was allowing a girl who had joined the bank from school to depart. Ann Bruce, Keith's own bank Business Manager at the time, was poached by the emerging new force that was to become a leader in mobility (or homecare) products.

Ann, a non-stop and enthusiastic workaholic became a director within a few months at CCC, and is now actively involved in every aspect of running the business and ensuring that the high standards and ethics are maintained.

Honorary Ambassador - and 'THE FACE' of Castle Comfort

Dr Neil Stirling MB ChB

With a career as doctor spanning over six decades, Neil on retirement, was invited as a volunteer to represent Castle Comfort. Initially he oversaw and organised payments from the firm's Good Deeds Fund (link) but on becoming more involved and knowledgeable with the products and services, became the ' StairliftsDoctor ' with his very own successful website.

His life story and achievements can be found on his site and it is clear why the staff at Castle Comfort hear comments daily such as - 'simply - he is the best doctor - ever'.

Patron of CCC's Good Deeds Fund and the Doug Brown Motor Neurone Disease Fund

Terry Conroy

A legend indeed in soccer, playing 26 times for his country, Ireland, and 333 for Stoke City. Terry, to this day, cannot walk around the Potteries without someone shaking his hand and thanking him for scoring a goal in 1972 at Wembley - the only time the 'Potters' have won a trophy.

'TC' - a friend of CCC chiefs Ann and Keith, has always assisted them, without reward, at cheque presentations to local good causes.

Self described as a 'dinosaur'

Jeff Dean

- or by others, as an 'authentic gentle viking' Jeff, has been - and still is, a major contributor to what this business is today.

A firm with excellent and well-priced products, needs a great team all round to look after the customers. And it could not be done without high quality and specially adapted premises. Jeff, a class carpenter and multi-skilled in other trades, single-handedly turned an old abandoned bank building into the HQ for CCC.

'Deano's' magic is still sought daily, due to the needs of Castle Comfort's customers. Often, it's necessary to fit a safety grab handle (properly) or to do a little stairway adaptation, so a stairlift can be fitted - when other firms may say it's impossible!

Far from a handicap!

Kathy Allan

When someone joins a company for a few hours weekly - with a role of 'part time administrator' and quickly becomes a member of the senior management - it's clear why. Kathy Allan joined Castle Comfort in 2004 to help with increasing office work, but on quickly learning ever aspect of the business 'part time' soon became virtually full time.

As is standard with the entire team at CCC, no task is beyond her. When not attending to the flow of telephone enquires from customers, as well as managing the general offices - Kathy will be seen in the showrooms demonstrating and advising on products - and sometimes even helping delivery drivers to unload new stock of riser recliner chairs!

The fitness required for all this is no doubt due to being an avid golfer at Cheshire's Alsager Golf & Country Club. Kathy is in fact, a Past Lady Captain - with an impressive single figure handicap!

'Peter Pan' Style Service Indeed

John Donkin

Since 2003, 'The Donkin' has been quite a formidable character as part of Castle Comfort's technical team.

Initially a distributor of the firm's own newspaper, The Clarion, his skill as a service engineer was soon realised. John became in demand sorting out the odd break-down of electric beds and riser chairs.

Regarded by all as a youthful, and fit 'Peter Pan' only a slight loss of hearing lets on that he is well in to his 70's.

But his CCC hearing aids, when he remembers to switch them on, should ensure many more years of good service!

'Mr Bills' - Extraordinarily Accountable

John Owen

It is rare for a company to have the dedicated services of a chartered accountant to attend to routine paperwork processing. Normally, a bookkeeper or accounts clerk is all that's needed. But such is the amount of administration at Castle Comfort, and the vital importance of it being in order, that John Owen Junior (of J F Owen Accountants, founded in 1956) was head-hunted and engaged by CCC over a decade ago.

Working 'in house' at Wolstanton, several days weekly, 'Mr Bills' or as he is sometimes referred to - The Chancellor - is depended upon, not just for skills related to finance and in-depth business consultancy. His expertise with modern IT gadgets, is a clear advantage for Castle Comfort. This is directly due to J F Owen & Company being, many years ago, one of the first accountancy practises in the UK to be fully computerised.
